She locked it carefully behind her, and went into her house. Tired, she dragged her feet into her bedroom, had a shower and changed to a patio dress before sitting down with a cool drink and…“Jule! Jule!!!” Dear God, that’s Jeremy’s voice. Has that creep been watching my house all this time? She decided to go sit in her garden until the ruckus stopped. “Jule!!! I know you’re in there! I have to talk to you, Jule,” came the voice again.Suddenly there was a calm, disdainful voice, asking, “Who are you and what makes you think you can disturb the peace here bothering and harassing my girlfriend?”Forever – by Kristi AhlersThe night was fully dark and she watched as fluffy snowflakes swirled and twirled on invisible eddies of air. How fickle the wind. It sent the flakes on a merry dance, twirling and spinning in the air. She watched as one landed against the window in front of her. She studied the lacy ice crystal, how fragile and beautiful.“Amazing to think that each of those flakes is unique and that none are the same.”The softly spoken words surprised Victoria and she spun around with her hand to her chest.“I apologize, I didn’t mean to startle you.”Victoria offered a small smile. “No harm done, I assure you.” She watched as the gentleman closed the distance between them to stand beside her. He took her breath away with his handsome form. They remained silent as they took each other’s measure. For a moment Victoria worried about being alone with a stranger, yet she knew in her soul this man would do nothing to harm her.Her Perfect Mate by Mary Alice Pritchard“Are you sure about this, Mom?” Levi asked, looking around the small community as he drove through town.“Yes, son. It’s a nice place according to Sandra, and I need someone I know close by. She and her mate have been good to me.” Olivia Forêt smiled at her son and patted him on the thigh.“I don’t know, Mom. It’s so remote here. I’m going to worry about you and Avery,” he said.“You’ll be a phone call away, Levi,” Avery reminded him from the back seat of the SUV.“Maybe I should lay out a semester. Make sure you get settled in. Then I can go back in the fall,” he said.“We’ve been over this, Levi. You’re doing great in college. This is what you wanted since you were a young boy. Nothing is going to stop you from achieving your dream, not even your sense of duty to us. Now stop it and find the house.” Olivia was fiercely proud of Levi. He’d overcome so much in the last year. She wouldn’t allow anything getting in the way of his dream to become a veterinarian. When she’d fought to be free of her arranged mate to keep her daughter from being sold off in a similar mating agreement, he’d fought right by her side. He hadn’t agreed with his father’s edict any more than she had. When she’d stood up to the bastard, he’d nearly beaten her to death until Levi had stepped in and stopped him. Instead of covering up what he’d done like so many times before, she allowed Levi to take her to the elders so she could request that the mating be dissolved for abuse. It was almost unheard of that mates would separate. In fact, no one in recent years had ever appealed for it that she knew of.Since theirs wasn’t a true mating, the elders had granted it without censure, and Olivia and her children left their sleuth.
